Tuesday night is CB night. Covert Bling practice night.
We arrive at the dance studio at 7pm and for an hour we work on dance conditioning (aka torture), led by Emma, before we move on to dance rehearsal time. The mirrored room can get hot as the evening sun steams through the windows this time of year and although they open there is scant opportunity for any kind of breeze to make its way through the gap provided. Closing the blinds to stop us from being blinded by said sunlight via reflection in the mirrors only makes it worse as the heat gets trapped. And so the only way to allow air to circulate (and therefore stop us from passing out) is to have the door to the studio open.
Last night, if memory serves, we did warmed up and then moved into a variation of moves we do on a regular basis; punching, double-backs, squats, lunges (both forward and back, arms low and lifted), kicks to the side so that we form a *T* shape, kicks to the front and oblique driven rib slides with arms and hands in various positions. We didn’t do many of our usual yoga poses as tiredness prevailed this week. That meant we just did mega hard-core stuff. I know that seems odd, but hey, if you’re tired, power on through!
Early on there was one more. *123 knee*.
*123 knee* involves alternate punches and a high knee lift, 20 or more on one side, equal amount on the other.
As we were powering through this particular form of torture a new student of one of the other classes held down-stairs wandered up to where we were, no doubt attracted by the sound of The Prodigy (the usual hard-core section soundtrack). As she hovered in the open door-way (remember, we need air), momentarily wondering if this was REALLY the dance class she was looking for I couldn’t help but say to her, “This isn’t the room you want…..”
